| IPX CPE Family |
| The Simton IPX is a hybrid IP PBX with optional, but very rich features found in full PBXs, VoIP gateways, IP routers, and firewalls. The Simton IPX has flexible and reliable methods to connect with PSTN's, the Internet, and VoIP networks. |
| Using Simton's distributed VoIP technologies, an enterprise customer with branch offices can easily build a data and voice VPN (V²PN). The Simton IPX can convert a legacy PBX into an IP PBX and migrate existing voice and data networks into a convergent network. |
| For VoIP service providers, the Simton IPX is an ideal CPE for individuals, SOHO and enterprise customers. The Simton IPX is easy to manage and very cost effective. |
|
PBX Features:
The Simton IPX supports analog phones and analog/digital trunks to the PSTN (central office). It has built-in PBX features including auto attendant, caller id, 3-way calls, call transfer and many other useful features. The Simton IPX also provides life line support that allows some phones to connect to the PSTN during a power outage.
|
VoIP Gateway:
The Simton IPX supports standard VoIP protocols. Multiple VoIP accounts can be shared by the local extensions on one Simton IPX. With VoIP services from an ISP, communications costs, especially for long distance calls, can be significantly lowered. Many PBX features such as DID and ACD are also available for the VoIP connections.
|
Voice Intranet:
Multiple Simton IPX systems can form a mesh voice intranet or a star voice intranet (also called Voice VPN in general). An organization using Simton's distributed VoIP technologies does not need a centralized soft switch. 2 or 3 Simton IPX's can form the simplest voice VPN, which can grow to any size if needed. A Simton IPX based voice intranet can be viewed as a virtual wide area PBX over an IP network. Call transfer, conference calls, unified dialing plan, mobile office, contact center and many applications are available and/or can be easily configured.
Using the PSTN interfaces of Simton IPX and IPX based voice intranet, especially when global locations are involved, can intelligently route voice calls to destination PSTN numbers with the lowest cost.
|
IP Routing and NAT:
On the WAN side, the Simton IPX supports PPPoE, DHCP, and static IP routing for selective ways to access the Internet. The Simton IPX has NAT capabilities and provides DHCP and DNS services to PC's and other IP stations in a private LAN.
|
Firewall and VPN:
The Simton IPX has a built-in firewall with sophisticated packet filtering capabilities. It supports a tunnel-based secure VPN between remote sites.
|
System Management:
The Simton IPX has a built-in web server used for system management. Through a web browser, you can access a well-designed graphical interface for system monitoring, configuration, software upgrades, and other types of maintenance.

| Advanced Features |
V²PN based Voice Services:
Multiple Simton IPX's can be joined to form a data and voice intranet. Calls from an extension at one location to an extension at different location are the same as the calls to a nearby office. On each IPX, the trunk interfaces connect to the local PSTN network and VoIP accounts provide local VoIP connectivity. Someone from a PSTN phone at one location can utilize the enterprise voice VPN to call to a PSTN phone at different location, which will result in cost savings by avoiding long distance toll charges. The Simton IPX has an authentication mechanism to qualify this voice VPN resource-sharing arrangement.
|
Customization of Greeting Voice:
The customer can record a greeting message appropriate to his organization by using an extension phone. If, instead, you use a PC or other recording device (for better sound quality) you should go to www.simton.com/support to convert your WAV file to 729a format. Many musical samples and prompt voices, using different languages, can be downloaded from this web site.
|
Calling Groups:
Simton IPX can be partitioned into smaller calling groups. Each group consists of external lines (trunks to the PSTN), VoIP accounts, local extensions, remote IPX, calling card accounts, etc. Each group can have different calling policies and accounting/billing rules. Using these features, an IPX can be shared by small companies or by departments of a big organization.
|
Multiple Accesses to VoIP Services:
Multiple VoIP service accounts can be configured in the Simton IPX. A user can selectively use the services for international calls and other long distance calls to get the best quality and the best price.
|
Intelligent Gateway:
The Simton IPX is a VoIP gateway with built-in intelligence for low cost and high quality voice services. The Simton IPX reserves bandwidth for different types of applications. When the bandwidth becomes tight, voice data has the priority to ensure the highest possible voice quality. The Simton IPX can automatically route some expensive PSTN-bound calls via inexpensive VOIP by changing the call routing path.
|
Inter-work with a PBX:
The Simton IPX can inter-work with legacy PBXs by connecting FXO or FXS interfaces to the PBX. This helps the PBX to expand its capacity, but more importantly, the PBX becomes a part of the VoIP network, such voice intranet (voice VPN) and external VoIP services. The Simton IPX with its built-in intelligence seamlessly converts the legacy PBX to an IP PBX while maintaining the existing investment and the user's dialing habits.
|
User Accounts:
The Simton IPX can be configured and managed by administrative users, read-only users, and individual phone users. Administrative users can make any changes to the system; read-only users can only browse the system information; individual phone users can only change and review the settings for his/her phone account.
